Named one of the top PR firms in the country by the Observer

Leah Paulos / Founder

Founded and led by Leah Paulos, Press Shop PR offers independent book publicity campaigns to authors and publishers. We merge our expertise in crafting effective pitches, our long list of journalist contacts, and our ability to navigate the rapidly changing media world in order to line up as many reviews, articles, interviews, excerpts, and TV and radio spots as possible.

Our publicity campaigns have helped authors gain national coverage in The New York Times, TODAY, The Daily Show, The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, dozens of NPR, SiriusXM, BBC and CBC radio shows, The New Yorker, CNN, MSNBC, and hundreds of other top-tier print, TV, radio, & online outlets.

Press Shop has worked with a wide range of authors and publishers on serious nonfiction, memoirs, literary fiction, and academic and lifestyle titles. Among the books we've promoted: MARCH, the #1 bestselling and National Book Award-winning graphic memoir by Representative John Lewis; Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s final book JUSTICE, JUSTICE THOU SHALT PURSUE, #1 NYT bestseller ON TYRANNY by Timothy Snyder; SECRET CITY by James Kirchick; and Louise Aronson’s Pulitzer-finalist ELDERHOOD.

Leah has spoken about book publicity in many venues, including the Columbia School of Journalism, CUNY Graduate Center, and on The Writer Files podcast. She began her career as a magazine editor at Condé Nast, then worked as a freelance writer and editor for dozens of national magazines and newspapers. She graduated from Cornell University in 1998.

The Press Shop office is in Park Slope, Brooklyn.

“Leah Paulos and her entire team are masters at what they do. I've used them three times now for three books and they've dazzled me each time. They came up with great pitches and materials, worked VERY hard to get them out there, and created an avalanche of opportunities for me. The process was wonderful too. They are conscientious, organized, motivated, energetic—and very nice. They greatly exceeded my expectations and it was worth every penny.”

Why Us?

We Focus on Your Book
Publishers’ in-house publicists are extremely stretched; they’re juggling upcoming, current, and past books in the publisher’s catalog. At Press Shop, we take a limited number of titles each season so we can give each publicity campaign the time and attention it requires.

Experience on the Media Side
Our background is in journalism, where we honed our skills for finding news hooks, crafting pitches, and guiding stories through to publication or broadcast. We know how journalists and producers think and what they need.

We Know People
We've worked in the media and book worlds in New York City for over two decades, and we have A LOT of contacts and relationships as a result.

We Get Results!
We’ve lined up appearances for our authors on the The Daily Show, PBS NewsHour, TODAY, and myriad MSNBC, CNN, and NPR shows. We’ve coordinated features, reviews, and other coverage in The New York Times, The Washington Post, The New Yorker, The Atlantic, and hundreds of other high-profile outlets. We do not stop working until we secure the best possible coverage for you and your book.

We Know How to Navigate This Crazy News Cycle
The media environment is extremely challenging right now—coverage of all the myriad problems in the country and the world takes up a lot of space. And the changes to media are incessant: there are layoffs at mainstream news outlets; new online-only columns and publications are always launching; the podcast industry is booming. There are plenty of opportunities to get coverage for a book, but you need to be nimble and focused and to know how to navigate the dizzying news cycle.

We Have a Personal Touch
We work by your side through the months leading up to publication and beyond. We’re responsive and accessible—and very nice!—as we help guide authors through the sometimes stressful, always exciting business of publishing and promoting a book.

We champion our authors tirelessly. And we love what we do.
